Evan W. Mickle APF (1978 - 2016)

Evan Wright Mickle, 38, died on December 26, 2016. The son of Jay Mickle of Southern Pines, NC  and Virginia Mickle of Flemington, NJ.  He is survived by his wife Christina Bainbridge Mickle, a son Henry Cooper Mickle, age 4, and a daughter Holly Ida Mickle age 1 of Pinebluff, NC

Born in Flemington, NJ, he was a graduate of the Hun School in Princeton NJ and the University of Delaware. An avid lover of walks in the woods and all things natural Evan spent time as a volunteer in Serbia and Croatia doing environmental recovery work after the war, as a volunteer for the Peace Corps in Mongolia, where he first met his wife, and was employed by various state and federal agencies in a number of wildlife projects. His international forays left him with working knowledge of French, Italian, Serbo-Croation, Russian and Mongolian.  A bit of a modern day Renaissance man his interests included playing drums, teaching himself the mandolin, gardening, cooking, family history, antiques and old houses. An avid soccer player since his youth he continued into adulthood recently leading his AC Sandhills team to a number of league championships.

After marriage in Portland OR and some time in California, Evan and Christy moved to Ithaca NY where he attended farrier school at Cornell to begin a new career. After his apprenticeship with Forging Ahead in Round Hill VA they moved to Pinebluff, NC where he joined his father in practice, eventual moving on to his own successful career attending to the needs of many of the area’s top horses.

In lieu of any services a tribute and reception will be held at the conference center at the Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club on Midland Road in Southern Pines on Friday evening March 24, 2017 from 6 - 8 pm. The following day there will be a special dedication of a monument at the Carolina Horse Park in Raeford, immediately following the completion of the Carolina International CIC 3* Event (not earlier than noon).
