Job Description
The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is accepting applications for an Agricultural Specialist III, Farrier for the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC). In consultation with clinical veterinarians, this position provides both advanced and basic farrier services for LVMC clients. Responsibilities of this position include teaching principles of therapeutic and basic shoeing to veterinary students; providing continuing education courses for farriers; and devising and constructing therapeutic shoes for horses with a variety of musculoskeletal problems.

The successful candidate will be able to perform a broad range of shoeing techniques and possess forging skills. This includes working with multiple materials for shoeing including steel, aluminum, and adhesive materials.  

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience or a combination of education and related experience totaling 6 years.

Must have attended at least a 12 week course in farrier skills.

Must have experience shoeing a broad range of disciplines and breeds including draft horses.  

Preferred Qualifications
- Hold Certified Journeyman Farrier Certificate or equivalent.
- Experience teaching farrier skills.
- Additional collegiate experience.
- An advanced degree.
- Experience which demonstrates computer skills for educational and data management tasks.  

Salary   Commensurate with qualifications  

Special Conditions    Must be available for occasional emergencies.
