CANADIAN FARRIER ENROLLS IN AAPF/CAPF MENTORING PROGRAM
Pairing of recent farrier or veterinary school graduates (Mentees) with more knowledgeable and experienced farriers (Mentors) has been named a priority program by the American & Canadian Associations of Professional Farriers (AAPF/CAPF). In naming the program, it was determined that "mentoring” would refer to a personal and professional developmental relationship that would build between the two parties; with the understanding that true mentoring be more than just answering occasional questions or providing ad hoc assistance. The AAPF/CAPF wishes to have this program focus on developing ongoing lifetime relationships of learning, dialog and challenges.Ed Reardon APF CJF of Lone Jack, Missouri has notified us of his mentoring of Mr. Olivier Dufresne APF from Cheneville, Quebec, Canada. Olivier is a 2009 graduate of Oklahoma Horseshoeing School in Ardmore, Okla and a new member of the AAPF/CAPF. He has recently attended some courses at Heartland Horseshoeing School in Lamar, Missouri and made inquiries with Ed about the AAPF/CAPF Mentoring program.
Ed operates a multi-farrier practice which specializes in corrective and therapeutic farriery while working with Chris Wilhite DVM at Wilhite and Frees Equine Hospital in Peculiar, Missouri. After spending about a week with Ed, Olivier is now mentoring with Doug Workman APF CJF in Cleveland, Georgia before returning to Canada.
"AAPF/CAPF Mentoring relationships may start with just a week or less, and then grow into a lifelong relationship," stated John Crothers APF CF, chairman of the AAPF/CAPF Mentoring Committee. "We encourage farriers to apply as Mentors and farrier and vet students to apply as Mentees by using the forms found on our website.
